The Samsung Gear S2 just became even more of an Apple Watch rival

New Samsung Gear S2 colours and materials have been unveiled, making the Tizen-based wearable even more of an Apple Watch rival.

Giving iOS-shunners more smartwatch choice, Sammy has added Platinum and 18K Rose Gold models to its Gear S2 Classic lines that have to date been restricted to a black plastic shell.

With dozens of Apple Watch configurations available, including the high-end Apple Watch Edition, these additions put the Gear in even-closer competition with the market-leading wearable.

While the Rose Gold Gear S2 Classic is adorned by an ivory genuine leather band, the Platinum model features a black leather strap.

Samsung Gear S2 vs Apple Watch: Which is best?

Refurbed finish aside, however, there’s nothing to distinguish the new Gear S2 Classic from its existing predecessor.

That’s not necessarily a negative, though. The Gear S2 is one of our favourite smartwatches to date, with its innovative rotating bezel offering stunningly simple controls.

Running Tizen, the Android phone-friendly wearable delivers all manner of alerts and notifications direct to users’ wrists and lets you make and receive calls on the fly.

UK pricing for the new Samsung smartwatches have yet to be announced.
