Google has just finally released Android 7.0 Nougat to the public — at least, if you own one of the devices that’s included in the initial launch. These devices include the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Google Pixel C and Android One.

Of course, the update isn’t immediately available on all of these devices quite yet. The rollout will be more gradual, with devices getting an OTA update notification within the next few days or weeks,Phonearena reported. Of course, if you’re a Nexus owner — and a little bit impatient — you can force the update by following these steps.

  1. It’s always a good idea to backup your phone before any update. To do this over the cloud, go toSettings > Backup & reset, and ensure that both Backup my data and Automatic restore are enabled.
  2. Alternatively, you can plug your phone into a PC, and then copy the DCIM folder over to your computer’s hard drive.
  3. To push an Android 7.0 update now, just sign up for the Android Beta Program by following this link and be sure to use the Google account associated with your Nexus devices.
  4. Choose the Nexus device you want to enroll in the beta program.
  5. Hit sign up.
  6. Google will push the newest update to your phone pretty quickly — and in this case, it’s Android 7.0 Nougat.

Your new phone will now be running what is, for all intents and purposes, Android 7.0. Once the public release is officially rolled out, Google will allow you to download that version too for a seamless transition.

Of course, if you don’t have one of the aforementioned devices, then you’ll have to wait until your carrier releases its version of Nougat. Alternatively — if you’re in the market for a new phone — upcoming devices that are slated to be running Android 7.0 right out of the box include the LG V20 and all upcoming Nexus phones.
