There may not be a whole lot left to discuss about LG’s upcoming G7 ThinQ smartphone by the time LG officially unveils the handset during a scheduled press event on May 2. In this final week leading up to the launch, several leaks and details have emerged, including the fact that the G7 ThinQ will sport an eye-searing 1,000 nits brightness level. It will also pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip (SoC), and if you’re wondering how the handset will perform, there are couple of leaked benchmark scores to analyze.
Geekbench is a popular landing spot for benchmarking unreleased phones, and the G7 ThinQ has now made its obligatory appearance. According to Geekbench’s database entry, the phone also sports 4GB of RAM, though it’s possible that LG will release a SKU with 6GB. We also know that the G7 ThinQ has a 6.1-inch QHD+ (3120×1440) display and 64GB of onboard storage, though like the RAM configuration, there could be a separate SKU with more flash memory.
As to how it performs, the Geekbench entry shows the G7 ThinQ scoring 2,312 points in its single-core test and 8,979 points in its multi-core test. Those are both at the upper end of the spectrum, and if compared against our collection of Geekbench scores, it’s higher than every other handset we’ve tested except for Apple’s iPhone X. That includes Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S9+. Here’s a look:
Bear in mind that we did not test the G7 ThinQ ourselves, we simply plugged the leaked benchmarks into our own database of scores to see how the phone stacks up, assuming the scores are legitimate. That said, it scored about where we would expect it to. Whether it ends up edging out the Galaxy S9+, however, depends on the finalized hardware and software configuration, including any potential carrier bloat.
Regardless of where it ultimately ends up, the G7 ThinQ looks to be a worthy handset in the premium Android space. Famed leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks on Twitter) recently posted press renders of the phone that show a high-end construction that is line with other flagships. The pictures also show a dual rear camera arrangement on the back, along with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, USB-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
