We already know that Huawei and Leica have joined forces to make cameras for Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus which is something unique in the smartphone segment, but we did not know exactly what physical components are used by Leica.
Thanks to MyDrivers, we can understand that 12-megapixel color and monochrome cameras which Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus use are not made by Leica, but of Sunny Optical.
Which is one of the largest supplier of camera modules for mobile phones in the world. If you have not heard that name before, this is because usually it is not mentioned in marketing materials.
As for the participation the Leica obviously has secured certification of dual camera of Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus. Perhaps Leica is pleased that the cameras meet high quality standards sufficient to allow mentioning her name.
Perhaps Huawei had to use the phrase “Leica-certified”, or even “approved”, to describe more accurately the cameras of Huawei P9 and P9 Plus.
This is the first time a German company (Leica) has partnered with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer (Huawei), which can grow in something more serious in the future.
